SUMSUNG NEXT HERO MYSA CHAMPIONS GIRLS OVER 16

For someone to succeed in anything you need to have a plan of action, team work and dedication. Otto-Benecker is no exception with great players who are quite motivated and well disciplined on and off the field. This year will be a year to be remembered; first and foremost we have an online presence and the greatest of all winning the overall zonal championship.

Girls’ football in general has really improved over the years and nowadays it’s hard to find a girl without playing boots. On our way to success we had to play a series of tough matches for example we played Githurai Kimbo in the quarter final which was a really tough match. Thanks to a spectacular goal from Esther Mazira which took us to the semis by defeating Githurai 1- 0. Semi final was another very tough match and we realized that as we proceed to the next stage we had to be determined and focused on the prize without feeling intimidated by the opponents. We played Mathare Zone in the semi-final stage which we won 1-0, thanks to Susan Wairmu for the wonderful goal. Finally the big day came and we were in the final against Ruaraka which comes from Babadogo with the likes of veteran players like Usla, Our team being a young side but with lots of experience and exposure we knew it was going to be a tough match. The match kicked off at around 12 noon with 30 minutes played for each half. After the normal time its was still 0-0 and the match was called for an extra 10 minutes for each half which ended without a goal and everyone was anxiously waiting for the penalty shootouts, This was a really tensed moment as to many believe that penalty is always about luck but to me I think otherwise whereby the most team that have confidence, focus and experience stands the high chance of winning. The referee called upon each side to be ready for the penalty shootouts whereby we started by scoring and later ended with Otto-Benecker scoring 6 against Ruraka 5 and that was it and the new champion where smiling, singing and rejoicing what a day to be remembered I wish you were there. Let us all support the girls’ child in sports and education. My thanks goes to the MYSA fraternity and most in particular Masaka, Viyuka, Teddy (Coach), Izoh (assistant coach) and the entire team for the great achievement. ‘Ongera’ our players namely
